When we heard that there is more plastic than plankton in some parts of the ocean, we knew we had to do something. We were picking up trash at the beach when Althea (who was 6 at the time) held up two small curved scraps of plastic and said, “This looks like an elephant.”
Take this idea, apply a little hot glue…and Litter Critters are born.
Every Litter Critter is a one-of-a-kind creation, and all are made exclusively from trash, mostly plastic, we collect from beaches of the San Francisco Bay. (I’m sad to report that we can keep ourselves busy with just the trash found at a single East Bay beach near our home in Oakland.) We’re making and selling them because we want to take at least a tiny bit of plastic trash out of the Bay, and to make people think about plastic and its consequences and where the plastic they buy and discard ends up, and to support Save the Bay, a non-profit organization that has been advocating to protect and restore the SF Bay for more than 50 years.
When you buy a Critter, you can pay what you think is fair (as long as it’s at least $5.00). We will donate 25% of the purchase price, off the top, to Save the Bay. (www.saveSFbay.org). We also take commissions, if you have a specific animal or person in mind that’s not represented here. Contact us below!
And thanks for visiting our Litter Critters shop.
